A Journey from Infertility to Parenthood: Overcoming Bilateral Hematosalphinx and Azoospermia

12 Apr 2025

At Iswarya Fertility Clinic, we recently celebrated a remarkable success story. Meera, a 32-year-old woman, and her husband Aakash had been trying to conceive for over five years. Despite multiple IVF attempts at other clinics, their dream of parenthood remained elusive. Determined not to give up, they visited Iswarya Fertility Clinic, where our expert team identified key challenges and crafted a personalized treatment plan.

Diagnosing the Underlying Causes

Upon evaluating the couple, we discovered that Meera was suffering from Bilateral Hematosalphinx, a condition where blood accumulates in both fallopian tubes, preventing natural conception. Additionally, Aakash was diagnosed with Azoospermia, meaning no sperm was present in his semen. Despite the complexity of their situation, we were confident that with the right approach, their dream of becoming parents could be achieved.

What is Bilateral Hematosalphinx?

Bilateral Hematosalphinx occurs when blood collects in both fallopian tubes, blocking the natural pathway for eggs and sperm. Causes can include:

  • Ectopic pregnancy (tubal pregnancy)
  • Endometriosis
  • Tubal infections or blockages
  • Cryptomenorrhea (menstrual obstruction)

Without functional fallopian tubes, natural conception is impossible, and medical intervention becomes essential.

Comprehensive Diagnosis and Treatment Plan

Bilateral Salpingectomy—the surgical removal of both fallopian tubes—is often the best course of action to resolve Hematosalphinx. Without fallopian tubes, conception is only possible through IVF, where fertilization occurs outside the body and the embryo is transferred to the uterus.

Overcoming Azoospermia with Micro-TESE

In Aakash’s case, Azoospermia posed another challenge. This condition can occur due to blockages or abnormalities in the testicles. Our experts performed Micro-TESE (Microdissection Testicular Sperm Extraction), a minimally invasive procedure to retrieve healthy sperm directly from the testicular tissue. These retrieved sperm would later be used for ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection), a specialized technique where a single sperm is injected into an egg for fertilization.

The Treatment Journey

After the Bilateral Salpingectomy was performed to remove Meera’s blocked fallopian tubes, our team moved forward with ICSI and Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET). Although Meera had faced three IVF failures before, our dedicated specialists ensured a meticulous approach at every step. The expertise and attention to detail at Iswarya Fertility Clinic made all the difference.

The Result: A Miracle Conceived

We are delighted to share that Meera is now 12+ weeks pregnant! After years of struggle, multiple failed treatments, and endless patience, the couple’s dream of parenthood has finally come true.

Their journey stands as a testament to the importance of resilience, trust in advanced medical care, and the expertise of our clinicians.
