Who Needs ICSI?

ICSI is recommended when male factor infertility is the primary concern, or when conventional IVF has not resulted in fertilisation.

Low Sperm Count

Oligospermia — fewer than 15 million sperm per mL.

Poor Sperm Motility

Sperm unable to swim normally (asthenospermia).

Abnormal Sperm Shape

High proportion of abnormally shaped sperm (teratospermia).

Azoospermia

No sperm in ejaculate — retrieved via TESA or PESA.

Previous IVF Failure

Failed fertilisation with conventional IVF in a previous cycle.

Anti-Sperm Antibodies

Immune factors preventing sperm from fertilising the egg naturally.

The ICSI Process — Step by Step

💉

1. Ovarian Stimulation

The female partner receives hormone injections to produce multiple mature eggs, monitored by ultrasound every 2–3 days.

🥚

2. Egg Retrieval

Eggs are collected under mild sedation via a fine needle guided by ultrasound. The procedure takes 15–20 minutes.

🔬

3. Sperm Preparation

A sperm sample is processed in the lab. If sperm count is very low or absent, TESA/PESA may be performed to retrieve sperm directly from the testis.

🧬

4. Single Sperm Injection

A single healthy sperm is selected under high magnification and injected directly into each mature egg using a microscopic glass needle.

🌱

5. Embryo Culture

Fertilised eggs develop into embryos over 3–5 days in our AI-monitored time-lapse incubators.

🏥

6. Embryo Transfer

The best-quality embryo is transferred into the uterus. A pregnancy blood test (beta-hCG) is done 12–14 days later.

ICSI — Frequently Asked Questions

What is ICSI treatment?
ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) is an advanced form of IVF where a single sperm is injected directly into an egg. It bypasses the need for sperm to penetrate the egg naturally, making it effective for male infertility.
What is the success rate of ICSI?
At Iswarya Fertility, ICSI achieves approximately 70–75% fertilisation rates per egg. Clinical pregnancy rates depend on age and individual factors. ICSI success rates are broadly comparable to conventional IVF.
How is ICSI different from IVF?
In standard IVF, eggs and sperm are placed together and fertilisation occurs naturally. In ICSI, a single sperm is selected and injected directly into each egg. ICSI is recommended when sperm quality is poor or fertilisation failed with IVF.
Does ICSI hurt?
The ICSI procedure is performed in the laboratory on eggs outside the body — the patient does not feel anything during the sperm injection itself. Egg retrieval (required for both IVF and ICSI) is done under sedation.
What is the cost of ICSI treatment in India?
ICSI at Iswarya Fertility typically costs ₹1,60,000–₹2,20,000 per cycle, including the ICSI procedure alongside the IVF cycle. EMI options from ₹9,999/month are available.
